Florida's climate is hard on outdoor materials, but a well-installed fence can still last for decades. Here's what to expect from each type.
Typical lifespans
- Vinyl: 25–30+ years with almost no maintenance
- Aluminum: 30+ years, rust-proof
- Wood: 10–15 years with proper sealing
- Chain link: 15–20+ years
Making your fence last
Proper installation matters most — especially setting posts deep enough for our sandy soil. Sealing wood and rinsing vinyl or aluminum a couple times a year also goes a long way.
